Former NHL defenseman P.K. Subban recently faced a peculiar and painful medical situation involving an earpiece.
As an ESPN NHL analyst, Subban found himself needing medical intervention to remove a piece of his earpiece that had become lodged in his ear during Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
This small, yet troublesome, part of the earpiece had been stuck in his ear for over a week, causing him considerable discomfort.
For eight days, Subban experienced significant ear pain without knowing the cause. Upon visiting a doctor, it was confirmed that the earpiece fragment was lodged very deep in his ear, right against the eardrum. Subban described the experience as the “most excruciating pain.”

Throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the thrilling final series, Subban had been an integral part of ESPN’s coverage.
He was present in Sunrise, Florida, to witness the Florida Panthers secure their first Stanley Cup in franchise history by defeating the Edmonton Oilers in a dramatic seven-game series.
Subban transitioned to an analyst role following his retirement from professional hockey in September 2022, after a stellar 13-season career in the NHL. Seven of those seasons were spent with the Montreal Canadiens, where he made a significant impact.
Looking ahead, Subban is set to continue his role as an analyst with ESPN for the 2024-25 NHL season, which kicks off in October. His engaging commentary and deep understanding of the game will once again be a highlight of ESPN’s hockey coverage.
