Miami Heat Star Jimmy Butler is set to stay with the team for the 2024-25 NBA season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA honoree, who has a player option for 2025-26, will neither finalize a contract extension with the Heat nor push for a trade before the 2025 offseason.
Charania reports that Butler “has an affinity” for Miami and wants to remain with the organization.
While Miami could theoretically decide to trade Butler, there’s no indication they intend to do so, especially given his reported unwillingness to sign an extension with any team, which would decrease his trade value.

Earlier this spring, speculation arose that Butler might seek a change of scenery due to his desire for a two-year, maximum-salary extension and Heat president Pat Riley’s public reluctance to offer such a deal to the 34-year-old, who has dealt with injuries in recent years.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst shared on The Pat McAfee Show that Butler had informed rival teams of his desire to stay with the Heat, even without a new contract.
“Even if there’s no extension, he’s going to focus on next season. He’s got a player option in the summer of 2025 next year that he can use,” Windhorst reported. “I think Jimmy Butler wants to be in Miami. There’s teams that have definitely said ‘Hey, are you looking to get out?’ And I think he said, ‘I’m solid in Miami.’ I think that’s been communicated with the Heat. We’ll see what happens next summer.”
Butler had another impressive season when healthy, averaging 20.8 points5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game across 60 contests for the Heat in 2023-24.
However, he was unavailable for the team’s first-round playoff series loss to Boston due to an MCL sprain.
Since joining Miami in a sign-and-trade during the summer of 2019, the Marquette alum has led the team to two NBA Finals appearances and three Eastern Conference Finals berths..
