Is Kevin Durant unhappy once again?
Phoenix Suns standout Kevin Durant has not expressed a desire to leave the team, despite recent trade speculation linking him to the Houston Rockets. This clarification comes from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who addressed the matter following a significant trade involving the Rockets and the Brooklyn Nets.
On Tuesday night, the Rockets acquired several valuable draft assets from the Nets, including a 2025 first-round pick swap, a 2027 first-round pick originally belonging to the Suns, and the rights to the two most favorable picks out of the Dallas Mavericks’, Suns’, and Rockets’ 2029 first-round selections. This move by Houston has been interpreted as a strategic accumulation of resources, potentially to bolster a bid for a high-caliber player like Durant.
Following this development, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Rockets are actively pursuing a trade with the Suns to acquire Durant. However, Windhorst provided additional context on ESPN’s “Get Up,” emphasizing that Durant has not requested a trade away from Phoenix.
He cited statements from Mat Ishbia, the owner of the Suns, affirming the team’s commitment to its core group of players, including Durant. Ishbia’s vision involves seeing the team’s three stars fully healthy and integrated, suggesting a focus on stability and continuity rather than a shake-up.

Windhorst’s insights underscore a significant aspect of the NBA’s rumor mill—just because a team is pursuing a trade does not necessarily mean that the player involved is seeking a move.
In the case of Durant, despite the Rockets’ apparent interest and their stockpiling of draft picks for a potential blockbuster trade, there has been no indication from Durant himself that he is looking to depart from Phoenix.
The situation highlights the dynamic and often speculative nature of NBA trades, where team ambitions and player intentions do not always align.
Even if the Rockets are unable to secure Durant, their collection of draft picks positions them well for other potential opportunities to acquire a superstar during this offseason, marking a proactive approach to team building.
