James Everett Jr., a seasoned trainer known for his work with many Pittsburgh Steelers players and nicknamed “RouteGod,” recently shared a video clip that features him executing routes and catching passes from Justin Fields.
The video montage, which included roughly a dozen passes, seemed to focus more on Everett’s agility and route-running skills rather than Fields’ passing prowess.
Despite the video being intended to showcase some dynamic play, it sparked concerns among viewers, especially regarding the timing of Fields’ throws. Numerous fans pointed out that many of Fields’ passes were delivered noticeably late in the routes.

For instance, in one segment, after completing a hook route, RouteGod appeared to pause for a couple of seconds, waiting for the pass that had yet to be thrown. Similarly, in the opening clip, Fields had not even released the ball when Everett made a sharp cut right on a post route, highlighting a delay in execution.
Among those who observed these issues was Le’Veon Bell, a notable former Steelers standout who played from 2013 to 2017. Bell was quick to comment on the tardiness of Fields’ passes, suggesting that the video was quite revealing about Fields’ current form.
According to Bell, the delay in Fields’ throws could signify deeper issues, especially if such timing persisted during actual games.
Le’Veon Bell’s critique underscores a broader sentiment that has been emerging from other reports as well—Justin Fields’ performances in offseason minicamp might not be up to expected standards.
With Fields openly expressing his ambition to outperform Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback position, the precision and timing demonstrated in the video raise doubts.
To achieve his goal, Fields will need to sharpen his skills significantly, as any delay like those observed could severely impact his game during real match situations.
