Earlier this week, a Cincinnati Reds fan became a viral sensation after executing a backflip on the field, only to be swiftly tased by a police officer.
This unusual incident during a Reds game added an unexpected twist to the typical fan-on-field scenario that often results in a dramatic takedown by security.
During the game on Tuesday, the fan, sporting a Johnny Bench jersey, leaped onto the field right before the bottom of the ninth inning and completed a backflip. However, his moment of glory was cut short when a police officer used a stun gun on him.
The fan, identified as 19-year-old William Hendon, wore the same jersey to his court appearance on Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and obstructing official business stemming from the stunt, according to WLWT.
The court session, presided over by Judge William Mallory, had a lighter moment when Mallory asked Hendon if he had seen any of the viral videos of his flip. Hendon replied he hadn’t, leading Mallory to inform him, “Everybody thinks you landed that backflip,” to which Hendon, after a pause, confidently responded, “Pretty sure I did.”
While Hendon has been temporarily banned from Great American Ball Park, he remains free to go about his usual activities until his next court date on July 3rd.
