Tom Brady’s departure from the New England Patriots has been a topic of much speculation, with many attributing it to a souring relationship with head coach Bill Belichick. However, Brady sought to clarify the situation in a recent statement.
“To coach Belichick… It wasn’t me. It wasn’t you. It was us,” Brady expressed, acknowledging that both he and Belichick contributed to the conclusion of one of the NFL’s most storied partnerships.
“Let me make this crystal clear, there is no other coach I would rather play for,” Brady affirmed.
Although Brady went on to play under coaches Bruce Arians and Todd Bowles, his most celebrated achievements were with Belichick, including six Super Bowl victories spanning several NFL eras. Now retired, Brady looks back on a legendary career, while Belichick plans to seek new opportunities next season after his exit from the Patriots.
The departure of Brady marked a turning point for the Patriots, who have struggled to replicate their previous success. Since his exit, the team has only secured one playoff appearance—a decisive defeat by the Buffalo Bills.
During his recent induction into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame, the team retired Brady’s iconic No. 12 jersey and announced plans for a statue outside Gillette Stadium, cementing his legacy.
Belichick, too, is expected to be honored similarly in the future, having cemented his status as perhaps the greatest coach in NFL history.
While their partnership didn’t end as many would have hoped, the mutual respect between Brady and Belichick remains evident, a testament to the incredible journey they shared in New England.
