Following some standout performances, Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzi??is has encountered a significant setback.
The Celtics revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Porzi??is has sustained a rare injury to a tendon in his left leg.
This particular injury has made his availability uncertain, with Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks fast approaching on Wednesday.
The injury occurred with just 3:27 left in the third quarter of Game 2, during which the Celtics were leading the Mavericks 73-63. The 2018 All-Star has been diagnosed with a torn medial retinaculum that led to the dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon. Notably, this injury is in the opposite leg from a previous calf injury that sidelined Porzi??is for over a month.
Boston’s coach, Joe Mazzulla, addressed the severity of the situation in a press briefing on Tuesday, labeling the injury as “serious.”
Porzi??is had been a pivotal player for the Celtics, scoring 20 points in Game 1 and adding another 12 in Game 2, helping to position the team just two wins away from their first NBA championship since 2008.
Here’s what he had to say about the injury on Tuesday:
Wishing Kristaps a speedy recovery. His passion for the game is truly inspiring.
