Drake Maye can sling it!
The offseason provides a prime opportunity not only for honing football skills but also for building team chemistry.
The New England Patriots embraced this dual purpose during their engaging visit to the Perkins Community Center/Lee School on Tuesday. The team participated in a range of activities with local children, including soccer, kickball, football, basketball, and various art projects.
One of the highlights of the day was a spirited dodgeball game, where Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye surprised everyone with his prowess. He managed an impressive shot that knocked center David Andrews out of the game, showcasing skills that extended beyond the football field.
The players also competed in a friendly game against the students, with Maye and Andrews eventually joining the students’ teams to even out the competition.

Head coach Jerod Mayo praised Maye and tight end Hunter Henry as the team’s top dodgeball players.
Beyond dodgeball, Maye also demonstrated some basketball skills, timely given the Boston Celtics’ current 2-0 lead over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. Maye humorously likened his basketball abilities to a “poor man’s Jayson Tatum.”
Drake Maye’s athletic versatility can be traced back to his high school days at Myers Park in Charlotte, where he played both football and basketball, a background that undoubtedly contributed to his reaching the NFL.
In a significant endorsement of his potential, the Patriots chose to draft Maye with the third overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, rejecting substantial trade-down offers.
This decision marked a key moment for the team’s new leadership structure, spearheaded by executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf, who was instrumental in selecting the quarterback seen as the future of the franchise.
