Travis Kelce has kicked off shooting for his debut scripted series, confirming his foray into acting is in full swing.
Reports surfaced in May that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end secured a role in Ryan Murphy’s new FX series, “Grotesquerie.” Filming commenced the following day.
While Kelce has made appearances as himself, notably in Showtime’s “Moonbase 8” in 2020, and has ventured into production with the film “My Dead Friend Zoe,” his role in “Grotesquerie” represents his first substantial acting endeavor. He is also set to host the upcoming Prime game show “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”
During a June 6 interview on “Good Morning America,” Kelce shared his thoughts on acting. “I guess you could say that,” he responded when asked if he considers himself an actor, noting his previous roles were as himself.
Kelce described the transition to acting as challenging, especially in capturing the emotional depth and understanding required for his character in “Grotesquerie,” where he stars alongside Niecy Nash-Betts and Courtney B. Vance. “It’s definitely different portraying a character and trying to find the emotions in everything,” he said. “I feel like an amateur right now, but I’m coachable.”

Shortly after his casting was announced, Kelce discussed his initial experiences on his podcast, “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce.” He praised Ryan Murphy’s multifaceted talents and the supportive cast and crew. “It’s been so much fun… everyone’s been so helpful in making me feel comfortable and giving me the direction I need,” Kelce remarked.
Despite feeling like a novice, Kelce humorously added, “I haven’t gotten fired yet, so we’re doing good.”
He described “Grotesquerie” as a “cool and unique show” and “quite a mystery,” expressing excitement about each scene.
On May 10, Kelce was seen on set dressed in an all-white ensemble, script in hand. His co-stars, Nash-Betts and Vance, were also spotted in character, adding to the anticipation for the series’ debut this fall on FX.
