Austin Rivers quickly countered after being criticized by Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes recently.
During an appearance on the “Gojo and Golic” podcast, Jackson expressed his disdain for even discussing Rivers. “I just don’t wanna be in no conversation when Austin Rivers’ name is involved,” Jackson stated. “Why is his name even involved? I don’t even want to answer a question when his name is phrased in it. Austin Rivers is somebody not relevant nowhere.”
This comment came in response to a question from host Mike Golic about Rivers’ post on X, where Rivers opined that more NBA players could transition to playing in the NFL than vice versa.
Rivers didn’t hold back in his response on X, addressing Jackson’s remarks directly. “This is so ironic considering he stays having my name in his mouth,” Rivers wrote. “(I have never met this guy btw lol) The comments say it all. He’s at it again lmao!! Poor dude starving for attention. Sad sight tbh. I honestly wish him nothing but the best fr. Good God bro… grow up.”

Meanwhile, Barnes, who co-hosts the “All The Smoke” podcast with Jackson, also shared his critical views not just on Rivers, but on his father, Doc Rivers. During the same podcast, Barnes discussed the breakdown of the Clippers’ “Lob City” era, featuring Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan, which coincided with his time as Austin’s teammate and Doc serving as head coach and president of basketball operations in 2014-15.
Responding to a comment on Instagram that suggested the “Utah Jazz broke that sh—t up,” Barnes pointed blame at the Rivers duo, specifically after Austin signed a three-year, $35 million deal in 2016. “Nah Doc broke that sh—t up when he paid his son that money,” Barnes commented. “He lost the team after that.”
Doc Rivers recently completed his first season coaching the Bucks, having taken over midseason after the firing of Adrian Griffin.
