After leading the UConn Huskies to a 75-60 victory over Purdue in the national championship on April 8, securing their second consecutive title, discussions about a potential three-peat for UConn started almost immediately.
However, head coach Dan Hurley might not be present to chase this goal.
According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Hurley is currently in talks to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Following this report, Fox’s John Fanta revealed more about Hurley’s openness with his team regarding these discussions.
“Dan Hurley met with his players at UConn this morning and informed them he’s been in talks with the Lakers,” Fanta reported. “Hurley was upfront about the situation, ensuring transparency with his team. Despite the ongoing discussions, Hurley emphasized that it’s business as usual, with the team set to practice at noon as scheduled.”
This potential move comes at a pivotal time for the Lakers, who are navigating a critical offseason. The team recently dismissed coach Darvin Ham on May 3 following a first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Denver Nuggets.
Additionally, forward LeBron James, 39, is facing a decision on a $51 million player option for 2025.
