A teammate of Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter has claimed that a video showing a confrontation at the team hotel was edited and did not fully capture the incident.
The controversy follows an event last Saturday during a game against the Indiana Fever, where Carter was involved in an on-court incident. After making a two-point shot, she delivered a harsh foul to rookie guard Caitlin Clark. The foul was initially called by officials but was later upgraded to a flagrant foul after a WNBA review.
The situation escalated when video footage emerged showing a man confronting Carter at the team’s Washington, DC hotel. In the video, he is seen questioning Carter about whether she had spoken to Clark about the incident, while a team security guard attempts to intervene.
Sky forward Michaela Onyenwere addressed the video on X/Twitter, stating that it was edited and failed to show more intense parts of the confrontation. According to Onyenwere, the man used derogatory language, calling them “ghetto (expletives)” and disparaging women’s sports.
Thanks to the quick actions of the Chicago team’s security, the situation was de-escalated before it could worsen.
In the aftermath, Carter and teammate Angel Reese, who was seen celebrating the foul on Clark during the game, both declined to apologize for the incident. Reese stated she was comfortable being portrayed as the villain.
Despite the tension, the Indiana Fever managed to secure a narrow victory over the Sky, winning the game 71-70 and breaking a three-game losing streak.
