Chennedy Carter and the Chicago Sky faced an unsettling incident outside their Washington D.C. hotel on Wednesday night, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Upon their arrival at the hotel before their game against the Washington Mystics, the team was approached by a man who attempted to engage specifically with Carter, according to the Chicago Sun-Times’ Annie Costabile.
The encounter was brief. “It was over as fast as it started,” stated Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca. “I’m very confident in our security always making our players feel safe. Today was a great example of how critical they are to our team.”
The situation was handled efficiently by the team’s security without the need to involve the police, and the man was escorted away.
The incident prompted several Sky players to express their concerns on X (formerly Twitter).
“Finding out our team’s hotel to pull up with a camera as we get off the bus and put it in my teammate’s face & HARASS her is NASTY WORK,” forward Angel Reese posted. “This really is out of control and needs to STOP.”
“Thank GOD for security,” wrote forward Isabelle Harrison. “My teammate being harassed at our hotel is insane! Couldn’t even step off the bus!!!”
Forward Michaela Onyenwere added, “Getting harassed at our hotel is where the line needs to be drawn. Some ‘fans’ have NO CHILLLLL.”
Brianna Turner, another forward, who was not present during the incident, reflected on the broader implications. “I wasn’t present for the interaction from earlier, but what occurred isn’t acceptable. Didn’t realize that when we said ‘grow the game’ that would be interpreted as harassing players at hotels. You are free to have your own opinion but consider if this happened to someone you know.”
This incident comes just days after Chennedy Carter was involved in a controversial on-court moment, delivering a hard off-ball foul to Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark during a tight game, which has since sparked widespread discussion.
