MLB fans are increasingly frustrated with Chicago White Sox play-by-play announcer John Schriffen.
Schriffen, who broadcasts for NBC Sports Chicago, recently had an awkward moment during a tense interaction between Tommy Pham and William Contreras at home plate. His comment, “We ain’t taking that. We ain’t taking that from the Brewers. I don’t care how many L’s we have this year, we ain’t taking that!” has left many fans disgruntled.
Reactions from MLB fans to Schriffen’s style have been overwhelmingly negative, with some calling for his removal.
One fan described listening to him as “almost embarrassing,” while another dismissed him as “a total clown.” Critiques ranged from comparisons to a “22-year-old college student who wants to be edgy” to likening his style to that of a WWE event rather than a baseball game.
These broadcasting missteps come during a particularly difficult season for the White Sox, who after a recent loss to the Brewers dropped to a 15-45 record.
They have lost 11 consecutive games and currently hold the worst record in the Major Leagues, adding to the frustrations of fans and increasing scrutiny on Schriffen’s role in the booth.
