Chennedy Carter, the Chicago Sky guard known for her contentious foul on Caitlin Clark, has boldly responded to her critics.
The former Texas A&M Aggies star addressed the backlash on social media after the WNBA upgraded her foul to a Flagrant 1, though she avoided fines or suspensions.
“I grew up with all brothers,” Carter posted on Instagram. “All we did is fight and argue. I love the hate more than the love, what don’t y’all understand? I’d rather you hate me than love me, and I mean that on my dead aunt.”
Throughout the game, tensions between Carter and Clark were high, culminating in Carter’s foul that sent Clark to the floor.
Clark’s head coach, Christie Sides, has urged the WNBA to offer more protection for her player.
“We’re going to keep sending these possessions and plays to the league, hoping they’ll start to take a closer look at what we see happening,” Sides stated. “I’m just glad Caitlin handled it the way she did.
“It’s tough for her to keep getting hammered without being rewarded with free throws or foul calls. She continues to fight through it, and I appreciate that. I’m really, really proud of her for it.”
Notably, Carter refused to “answer any Caitlin Clark questions” following the game so this is the first we have really heard from her about the incident.
