Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has turned himself in to police in Alabama after authorities found ‘severely malnourished’ dogs on his property.
The Super Bowl LVIII champion was booked into Tuscaloosa County Jail on Thursday morning on two misdemeanor charges of second-degree animal cruelty and was released shortly after posting a $600 bond, according to the local Fox News station.
Buggs is accused of leaving two dogs on the back porch of his house near his alma mater, the University of Alabama.
Legal documents reveal that Tuscaloosa Police and Animal Control officers found a pit bull surrounded by feces and without access to food or water.
They also found a black rottweiler mix locked in a metal cage in direct sunlight, similarly without food or water.
The civil petition states that the dogs were seized due to being ‘malnourished, emaciated, and neglected.’
Neighbors claimed the dogs had been left on the porch for at least ten days.
Investigators discovered that the house was being rented to Buggs and that his lease was terminated in April due to over $3,000 in back rent.
Witnesses say Buggs moved out around March 19. The Tuscaloosa County Animal Shelter euthanized the pit bull after it became increasingly aggressive and failed heartworm treatment.
Both players were arrested and released after posting bond.
They could face a fine of $2,500 and up to a year in jail if convicted.
