Soon-to-be ex-New York Mets pitcher Jorge López appeared to blame the media for allegedly misconstruing his words while talking to reporters following an outburst as he left the mound on Wednesday.
López seemed to say the Mets were “the worst team in probably the whole f—ing MLB.”
However, on his Instagram Stories, López clarified that he was referring to himself as the worst teammate.

“Whoever heard me, I said teammate and what I said on the situation, I’ve been the worst teammate,” he wrote. “Thanks media for making it worse.”
The Mets suffered another loss on Wednesday, with the Los Angeles Dodgers completing a sweep.
The score was tied 3-3 before the Dodgers scored six runs in the eighth inning.
After the Dodgers took the lead, López argued a check swing called a ball, leading to his ejection by third base umpire Ramon De Jesus.
As he walked off the field, López untucked his jersey and threw his glove over the protective netting into the stands, giving a fan a souvenir.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza described the move as “unacceptable” and stated that the matter would be handled “internally.”
Reports suggest that López is set to be designated for assignment.
López then allegedly made the critical remarks about his team, according to SNY.
The one-time All-Star has made 28 relief appearances for the Mets this season, posting a 3.76 ERA with 19 strikeouts and two saves.
