Before Bill Goldberg became a household name in professional wrestling, he played in the NFL as a teammate of Deion Sanders with the Atlanta Falcons.
The duo recently reminisced about their NFL days during Memorial Day weekend in Boulder, where they joined the Colorado Buffaloes players for a cookout, as captured by Well Off Media.
Sanders fondly recalled the wrestling matches that took place in the Falcons’ locker room and praised Goldberg’s prowess against his teammates.
Remarkably, Sanders is credited with launching Goldberg’s wrestling career.
“I guess I have to give him 100 percent credit for me being a professional wrestler,” Goldberg said. “Cause I never would have done it.”
Thanks to Sanders’ influence, Goldberg embarked on a wrestling career that he never imagined at the time.
After retiring from the NFL, Goldberg transitioned to professional wrestling, where he quickly rose to prominence.
He claimed the WCW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Hulk Hogan and frequently battled the NWO in various storylines throughout the late 90s.
Goldberg later joined WWE, earning a spot in the Hall of Fame in 2018.
Goldberg’s son, Gage, has also made headlines by committing to Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes earlier this year.
The 6-foot, 205-pound middle linebacker from Boerne Champion High School in Texas is part of CU Football’s 2024 recruiting class.
During his senior year, Gage was a formidable presence on the field, amassing 154 total tackles (7.5 for loss), eight hurries, four forced fumbles, one sack, a blocked field goal, and a forced safety.
