The Indianapolis Motor Speedway shared an update on the race moments ago:
Track drying is underway at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this afternoon after a heavy rainstorm passed through the area shortly after noon ET, with the intention of contesting the 108th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge later today.
Equipment began to dry the 2.5-mile oval at 2:30 p.m. ET, and IMS President J. Douglas Boles said it takes approximately two hours to dry the track. Further updates on the green flag will be provided when available.
Specific elements of the pre-race ceremonies will take place, Boles said. Those events include the military rifle volley and “Taps,” performances of “God Bless America” and the national anthem, the flyover by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the performance of “Back Home Again in Indiana.”
The race is set to start shortly.
