The search for a new head coach continues for the Los Angeles Lakers, and Stephen A. Smith believes he has the inside track on who it will be.
During Friday’s episode of “First Take,” Smith expressed his conviction that JJ Redick is the frontrunner for the role. “We all know JJ Redick is the leading candidate for this job,” Smith declared. “Stop the BS.”
This speculation gained momentum following reports by Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic, who noted that Redick had interviewed for the position. James Borrego and Sam Cassell are also contenders, having interviewed for the same role.
The Lakers are in the market for a new coach after parting ways with Darvin Ham, who was let go three weeks ago following a two-season tenure that concluded with a first-round playoff exit against the Nuggets.
Although Redick has no prior experience as a head coach, his long NBA career spanning over 15 seasons has made him a popular figure likely to command respect in the locker room.
It remains to be seen whether the Lakers will opt for Redick or choose another candidate for the head coaching position.
