After previously considering FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer as a mentor in his media career, former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf now claims the reporter is a fraud.
Glazer, known for breaking NFL news, has been open about his lifelong battles with anxiety and depression, sharing his experiences through his book and podcast.
On Sunday morning, Michael Phelps discussed his own mental health challenges during an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, crediting Glazer as his “mental health buddy.”

After Awful Announcing posted a clip of Phelps talking about Glazer, Leaf criticized Glazer’s mental health initiatives on social media.
Leaf accused Glazer of being a “fraud” and “con man” regarding his mental health advocacy, although he did not provide any specific proof or examples to support his claims.
“Glazer is a fraud when it comes to anything mental health or wellness related,” Leaf wrote in a social media post. “He uses it for his benefit and really isn’t invested in any of it unless it benefits him and his brand. Phelps is an inspiration but it gives me pause that he muddies his mind with that con man.”
Leaf, who has been open about his struggles with mental illness and depression following his addiction and subsequent 32 months in prison, had previously credited Glazer with helping his media career.
Leaf gave an emotional interview to Fox and Glazer in 2016 and spoke highly of him when he landed a job at SiriusXM in 2018 and again in 2019 when he joined ESPN as a college football analyst.
It appears that something has changed in recent years, leading Leaf to reverse his opinion of Glazer.
Leaf has not publicly shared what caused the shift in their relationship, but it is evident that Michael Phelps disagrees with Leaf’s harsh assessment, as Phelps continues to value Glazer’s support in his own mental health journey.
