PGA Championship contender Scottie Scheffler, who was arrested before his second round on Friday, is reportedly on the verge of having his charges dropped.
Scheffler’s arrest occurred early Friday morning as he attempted to drive around a police blockade outside the PGA Championship venue, where officers were responding to an earlier fatal accident. Amid apparent confusion, Scheffler was taken into custody after trying to bypass the stop.
However, journalist Kevin Van Valkenburg reports that the charges against Scheffler are likely to be dismissed soon. “Some news this morning: According to a source familiar with the office’s thinking, Jefferson County prosecutors are planning, as of now, to drop the charges against Scottie Scheffler early next week. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 am on Tuesday,” Van Valkenburg noted.

It has also been mentioned that the arresting officer either did not have his body camera activated or was not wearing one at the time of Scheffler’s arrest, indicating that no first-person footage of the incident will be available.
Despite this, the resolution seems to be leaning favorably for Scheffler, as the charges are expected to be formally dropped. This development comes just in time as the final round of the 2024 PGA Championship is set to commence on Sunday.
