Auburn running back Brian Battie is reportedly among the victims of a shooting in Sarasota, Florida, early Saturday morning, an Auburn spokesperson has confirmed.
According to multiple media outlets, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office stated that the shooting occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of 17th Street in Sarasota.
One person is deceased, and other victims, including Battie, are being treated at local hospitals.
Battie is reported to be in critical condition after being shot in the head.
An Auburn spokesperson responded to inquiries from AL.com about the shooting, saying, “We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information.”

As of now, Sarasota deputies have not identified any of the victims or disclosed the name of the shooter involved in the incident.
FOX 13 Tampa Bay reports that there was one fatality in the shooting, but officials have not provided the total number of victims.
The Auburn community is anxiously awaiting further details as authorities continue their investigation into this tragic event.
Battie is a Sarasota native who played for South Florida from 2020 to 2022 before transferring to Auburn before the 2023 season.
Entering his senior season in 2024, Battie carried the ball 51 times for 227 yards and a touchdown for Auburn last season.
