Scottie Scheffler’s first round at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club couldn’t have started better.
After driving his ball 324 yards down the right side of the fairway on the 1st hole, Scheffler lined up his second shot from 167 yards away. The ball landed inches from the hole, took one bounce, and dropped right in for an eagle.
This was Scheffler’s first official hole since becoming a father earlier this month, as he and his wife Meredith welcomed their first son, Bennett, on May 8.
“Oh! Hello, dad!” play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz exclaimed on the ESPN broadcast. “His first hole as a father is a memorable one.”

Scheffler, who has held the top-ranked golfer position for over a year, aims to win his first PGA Championship trophy this weekend. The 27-year-old finished second at the major last year, just two strokes behind Brooks Koepka at Oak Hill Country Club.
Scheffler already secured a major win this year at the 2024 Masters last month, finishing four strokes ahead of Ludvig Åberg in second place.
