It wasn’t the debut that Caitlin Clark hoped for.
Clark and the Indiana Fever fell to the Connecticut Sun in 92-71 as the first overall pick of April’s WNBA draft had some difficulty taking care of the basketball.
Caitlin Clark’s WNBA debut fell short of her expectations, despite scoring a game-high 20 points.
Clark’s 10 turnovers set a WNBA record for a player’s debut, and she ended the night with four fouls.

Clark reflected on the performance.
“I thought it was physical,” Clark said. “I don’t know, obviously it wasn’t the best start in the first half for myself – getting into foul trouble and then you have to sit on the bench before coming back into the game to get into a little bit of a flow.”
“Obviously too many turnovers, that’s not going to get the job done. I think a lot of things we’ll just learn from. I don’t think we played well, but we cut it to six in the third quarter so I think that’s a positive. We really did not play a good game, but we were right there in moments and then it kind of got away from us at the end of the third and fourth quarter. Didn’t have the greatest start so I think just a lot to learn from.”
Clark is already looking forward to her next opportunity to help lead the team to victory.
“You know, it’s the first one there’s going to be good ones and bad ones. Like we said in the locker room, we play on Thursday, you gotta learn from it and move on and be ready to go,” she said.
Clark and the Fever face off against the New York Liberty on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. ET.
