Johnny McEntee, a former UConn quarterback who later worked in Donald Trump’s White House, has stirred significant controversy on social media.
McEntee posted a video on TikTok in which he claims he distributes counterfeit money to homeless individuals. He suggests that this act, which results in the arrest of the recipients, is his way of helping to “clean up the community” by getting them off the streets.
In the video, McEntee stated, “So I always keep this fake Hollywood money in my car so when a homeless person asks for money, then I give him like a fake $5 bill, so I feel good about myself, they feel good. And then, when they go to use it, they get arrested so I’m actually like helping clean up the community. You know, getting them off the street.” He added a caption to the video saying, “Just a joke. Everyone calm down.”

Despite the claim of joking, the video, which has attracted over seven million views and widespread backlash, is seen by many as making light of a serious and harmful situation. The content has provoked strong reactions, with most expressing outrage rather than amusement.
Former ESPN personality Pablo Torre, who had previously hosted McEntee on his podcast, commented on the issue, emphasizing his long-standing concerns about McEntee’s behavior, saying, “P.S. I’ve been trying to warn you guys about Johnny McEntee for months.”
Throughout the controversy, McEntee has continued to be a vocal supporter of Donald Trump.
