Before diving into the rigorous schedule of the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp, former Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy took a moment to relax and unwind.
Fresh off being selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, McCarthy escaped to the Bahamas for a romantic getaway with his fiancée, Katya Kuropas.
Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, McCarthy posted, “Grateful for this dreamy escape at #BahaMarResorts with my love,” alongside images from their trip. In one of the photos, the 21-year-old athlete is seen planting a kiss on Kuropas’ cheek on their balcony. Another snapshot showed the couple posing with flamingos at Flamingo Cay, capturing the essence of their tropical retreat.

This vacation came just a week after the Vikings drafted McCarthy as a hopeful successor to veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins. McCarthy was the fifth quarterback picked in the draft, following Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and Michael Penix Jr.
The couple, who have been together for over five years and got engaged this past January, shared their happiness on social media. “A dream come true,” Kuropas expressed on her Instagram at the time of the draft. They also shared a heartfelt post featuring their Labrador puppy, Marley, captioned, “Me, You & Marley Forever & Ever.”
Returning from the Bahamas, McCarthy was ready to hit the ground running at the Vikings’ rookie minicamp. He expressed confidence in his preparation, telling ESPN, “It didn’t feel like my first day. I’ve been going over the offense for a long time now. So being able to [go] out there and perform and execute, that’s new, but it was nothing that was overwhelming or too much.” His smooth transition back to football illustrates his readiness and focus as he begins his professional career.
