Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese, though only a rookie, displayed seasoned professionalism this Friday.
Recently, a video featuring Dallas Wings players Kalani Brown and Teaira McCowan from a media day went viral on X, formerly Twitter.
Regrettably, the video attracted derogatory comments from a social media user who mocked the athletes’ appearances, suggesting they were transgender. Angel Reese quickly stepped in to defend her colleagues with a powerful response, criticizing the insecurity and strange behavior of the detractors.
“Y’all never seen black tall women that are FINE??? y’all so weird & insecure and it SHOWS,” Reese stated firmly on X. This defense has earned her praise from WNBA fans and likely appreciation from Brown as well.
Earlier in the week, Brown herself was in the news discussing the WNBA’s decision to fund charter flights for teams, highlighting the need for privacy and expressing relief at avoiding invasive public encounters.
“No more ‘how tall are you?’ in the airport… No more ‘Gosh I know you play ball…’ No more shoulder to shoulder invasion of space… I could cry,” Brown shared.
While Reese’s outspoken support may not deter all online trolls, it reinforces a camaraderie among players and a stance against unwarranted criticism in the public sphere.
