Nikki Glaser shared that Tom Brady skipped his own roast‘s afterparty following the recent Netflix special during an appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show on Thursday.
When co-host A.J. Hawk asked if roasts generally upset her, Glaser, who has participated in roasts for celebrities like Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, and Rob Lowe in the past, confirmed it can be tough. “Yeah, dude. It’s hard… Brady didn’t go to the afterparty. He’s a busy guy… but yeah, he left pretty quickly,” she explained.
She described an awkward interaction with Brady as he was leaving. “We hadn’t met before the show. After my set, I thanked him and gave him a hug. Then, running into him again in the hallway, I thanked him one more time, and he quickly said, ‘You did a great job, good luck with everything.’ It felt like he was saying, ‘I’ll never see you again and don’t even try to contact me. Have a good life.'”
Glaser empathized with Brady, noting that people often don’t realize how personal the jokes at roasts can get. “I don’t think he expected jokes about him losing his family, which isn’t even true. He’s a great father. That might have upset him, but he could have just had somewhere else to be,” she added.
Reflecting on the nature of roasts, she mentioned that while it’s easy to laugh in the moment, the jokes tend to revisit you later. “When you close your eyes at night, those jokes circle back around,” she mused.
Adding a lighter touch, she joked about the aftermath of harsh jokes: “And you make an appointment with your injection person to fix whatever they joked about—like if they said you looked like a horse.”
Comedian Andrew Schulz, another participant in the roast, revealed that the only off-limits topic was jokes about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman commented that the roast felt like an uncomfortable reunion for Brady with team owner Kraft and former head coach Bill Belichick.
