Paula Badosa has confirmed that her relationship with fellow tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas has come to an end.
The couple, who had been together for a year, decided to part ways, a decision that Badosa discussed publicly for the first time in a recent interview with Tennis.com.
“The relationship was great when things were great. At other times, we have our own careers and our own paths to follow, and sometimes it’s better to go separate ways,” she explained. Badosa likened their situation to that of Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov, suggesting that timing played a role in the challenges they faced: “It’s a little bit like meeting the right person but maybe at the wrong moment.”
Badosa further elaborated on the split in a heartfelt post on her Instagram Story on May 5, emphasizing the challenges of a public relationship: “It’s not easy when we started a relationship being so public. It’s like you have to finish it the same way. We have a great relationship between us. He’s a great guy and I wish him the best. I know that it’s the same on his side.”
She also expressed gratitude for the support from her circle and even Tsitsipas’s, adding, “I have so much support from everyone: my family, my team, my friends. I even feel support from his team and his family. They’ve all been very supportive of both of us. In the end, it was nothing bad that happened. It’s just life.”
Badosa remains optimistic about the future, noting, “I know we’ll keep seeing each other on tour, and you never know what will happen in the future.”
The relationship first became public knowledge during Wimbledon last year when a BBC presenter referred to Badosa as Tsitsipas’s girlfriend, a detail Tsitsipas did not correct at the time.
