However, a surprising revelation suggested that the Las Vegas Raiders may have resorted to a coin flip to determine their selection direction this year.
The Raiders, holding the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, faced several strategic choices due to various team needs. While securing a top-tier quarterback might have been ideal, considering they were relying on Aidan O’Connell and backup Gardner Minshew, the team found itself out of options as six quarterbacks were picked in the first twelve selections.
Instead, the Raiders selected Georgia tight end Brock Bowers with the 13th pick, a decision that raised eyebrows given the expert consensus that other positions, such as cornerback, should have been higher priorities.
Terrion Arnold, a former Alabama cornerback who was later selected by the Detroit Lions with the 24th overall pick, shed light on the Raiders’ decision-making process during an interview on The Next Round. He claimed that Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce told him after the draft that the choice between him and Bowers came down to a coin toss.

When asked to comment on this claim, Raiders assistant GM Champ Kelly was non-committal, stating, “I can’t confirm that at all,” without outright denying it. He expressed enthusiasm for Bowers, emphasizing, “We drafted Brock, and we’re excited to get him here. And I don’t think anyone else in our whole draft room felt any other way.”
