Tommy DeVito’s brief stint of success with the New York Giants in 2023 didn’t secure him a starting position, but it did garner him a symbolic honor from his hometown.
Although DeVito is currently competing for the third-string quarterback spot on the Giants, after the team signed Nathan Rourke, his performance last season has not gone unnoticed back home.
The town of Cedar Grove in Essex County, New Jersey, where DeVito grew up, awarded him the keys to the city — not the keys to New York City, but a significant local accolade nonetheless. “I’ll continue to be the ambassador and everything I need to be for this town,” DeVito said during the ceremony. “Anything you guys will ever need, let me know and I’ll be here for you.”
DeVito’s role as a hometown hero was cemented when he stepped up for the Giants last season after injuries sidelined Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor.
In his six starts, he led the team to three victories, completing 64 percent of his passes for 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns, with only three interceptions. He even added a rushing touchdown, capturing the attention of New York media along with his colorful agent, Sean Stellato.
Born in Livingston, New Jersey, and a graduate of Don Bosco Preparatory High School, DeVito went on to play college football at Syracuse before transferring to Illinois in 2022. He joined the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
