Houston Texans head coach Demeco Ryans shared his response to former teammate J.J. Watt hinting at a possible return to the team.
Watt, who retired after the 2022 season, mentioned at his annual charity softball game in Houston that he would consider coming out of retirement if the Texans really needed him, although he clarified that this offer would not extend beyond the next season.
“I told DeMeco last year, ‘Don’t call unless you absolutely need it. But if you ever do call, I’ll be there,’” Watt stated over the weekend, as reported by ESPN. “And he knows not to call unless he absolutely needs it. This is the last year I’ll tell him that, because I’m not going to keep training [the way] I’ve been training.”
When asked about Watt’s comments, Ryans humorously expressed his eagerness to take Watt up on his offer. “I need him now. I need to make that call right now,” Ryans remarked with a laugh in a video shared by radio host Sean Pendergast. “Any time J.J. Watt is ready to go, I’m ready to go.”

His potential return to the field, even if unlikely, has stirred excitement among Texans fans and left many wondering about the possibilities. While a comeback might seem improbable at the moment, in the world of sports, surprises can happen.
