Victor Wembanyama has undoubtedly demonstrated exceptional drive and determination.
The San Antonio Spurs standout was crowned the NBA’s 2023-24 Rookie of the Year on Monday. Wembanyama won the accolade in decisive fashion, receiving all 99 first-place votes, making him the first player to achieve this feat in almost a decade.
In a discussion with Jeff McDonald from the San Antonio Express-News, which was published on Monday, Wembanyama shared his intentions for the Rookie of the Year trophy. He plans to store it out of sight in a closet.
“I want it to be overshadowed by what I do in the future,” Wembanyama stated, regarding his award. “I don’t want it to push me in the slightest to slow down.”

During the interview, Wembanyama expressed his pleasure in being the unanimous choice for Rookie of the Year, noting that it “shows total domination.”
Standing at 7-foot-4, Wembanyama has challenged conventional basketball norms this season. At just 20 years old, he maintained an average of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and led the league with 3.6 blocks per game. He also remained relatively injury-free, a significant concern for players of his stature, participating in 71 of the 82 games for the Spurs.
