Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky made their WNBA preseason debuts over the weekend, although the majority of fans were unable to tune in.
The preseason matchup between the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx was not available for streaming online, much to the disappointment of fans.
Criticism was swift and sharp, with many fans denouncing the WNBA’s decision as “embarrassing.” Some even suggested that race may have been a factor, particularly in light of the televised coverage of Caitlin Clark’s game.
“The WNBA is wildly embarrassing. Not having Angel Reese and Kamila Cordossa’s games on the league pass is insane. Angel Reese is one of the reasons why women’s basketball is gaining so much attention, but they made sure to put the white girl front and center. I’m tired of them,” one fan expressed.

“The entire sports media machine made a concerted effort to ignore Angel Reese in this year’s women’s tournament…so this isn’t the least bit surprising,” another fan lamented.
“While I’m not saying it’s about race, it’s definitely terrible for the WNBA and shows why they struggle for viewers. There’s no reason why Reese and Cordossa’s game tonight shouldn’t have been available. The NBA would never do this,” another fan emphasized.
As the 2024 WNBA regular season is set to commence next week, fans hope for improved accessibility and coverage of preseason games moving forward.
