Tyronn Lue has expressed his desire to remain with the Los Angeles Clippers amidst speculation about potential interest from the Lakers in acquiring him as head coach.
Following the Clippers’ elimination from the postseason by the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, Lue conveyed his strong attachment to the Clippers organization in a statement to reporters.
“I would love to stay with the Clippers,” Lue affirmed. “I didn’t come here to bounce around; I’m committed to this team. Mr. Ballmer, Lawrence Frank, Mark Hughes, and Trent Redden have all been incredibly supportive. This is where I want to be, and I hope they share the same sentiment.”
While refraining from direct commentary on the Lakers situation, Lue acknowledged the flattering aspect of being pursued.

“It’s always a great feeling to be wanted,” Lue admitted. “But as I’ve said, my focus is on the Clippers, and I hope we can come to an agreement to continue our journey together.”
The Lakers recently parted ways with coach Darvin Ham following their first-round playoff exit against the Denver Nuggets, prompting speculation about their interest in Lue, who previously coached LeBron James to an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lue notably declined a coaching offer from the Lakers in 2019.
After serving as Doc Rivers’ assistant for one season, Lue guided the Clippers to the Western Conference Finals in 2021 in his inaugural season as head coach. However, the team has faced early playoff exits in the subsequent seasons.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers are looking to extend Lue’s contract, which currently has two seasons remaining.
