A six-time NFL Pro Bowler and current FOX Sports co-host is not impressed with Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Drafted tenth overall by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL draft out of the University of Michigan, the national champion-winning quarterback has been pegged as the Vikings future franchise quarterback following the departure of Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons.
However, former Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills running back Lesean McCoy is not impressed labeling McCarthy as “nothing special.”
“REPORT: Former star RB LeSean McCoy says that Vikings QB JJ McCarthy is nothing special: “What shows you that JJ McCarthy can win games for you with his arm. Watching his tape, nothing jumps off saying we have to add this dude.”
Supporters of McCarthy were quick to point out that McCoy was a big fan of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett who is now the back-up to Jalen Hurts with the Eagles.

It’s unclear if the Vikings will start McCarthy immediately as they did sign veteran quarterback Sam Darnold this offseason.
However, it’s very clear that the Vikings made it a point to draft McCarthy as they traded up to make sure they got him with the tenth overall pick.
Based on McCoy’s track record, it could be a positive for McCarthy that McCoy sees “nothing special” in him.
