Angel Reese, known as the Bayou Barbie, is steering clear of rapper rivalries.
The competitive spirit and outspoken nature of Reese are well known both on and off the basketball court, yet she chose to remain neutral during a recent Chicago Sky Q&A session. When the team was prompted to choose between Drake and Kendrick Lamar amid their rap battle, Reese tactfully avoided taking sides.
While the majority of her teammates supported Drake, Reese opted for diplomacy, indicating she wanted no part in fueling any potential disputes between the artists. She also expressed a desire to avoid the media frenzy that might ensue from her response. “I’m not getting in this controversy because I’ll be on Twitter, The Shade Room, all that,” Reese remarked. “Nope!”

This isn’t Reese’s first time dodging the “Drake or Kendrick” debate. At the WNBA Draft red carpet, when pressed by Complex to choose a side, she similarly declined. “I don’t want to get in the mix,” she asserted. “I’m out the mix!”
Reese has mentioned Drake before. During a 2023 interview on The Breakfast Club, she shared that both Future and Drake had messaged her to congratulate her following her NCAA Championship victory. “They just congratulated me,” she noted. Despite the friendly exchange, Charlamagne tha God cautioned Reese about interacting with the rappers, noting their reputations: “You said two that you need to stay far away from,” he advised.
However, Reese appears to maintain a positive view of Drake. She featured on the cover of Teen Vogue in 2023 and referenced a Drake lyric from “Jimmy Cooks” in her Instagram post promoting the feature. “Don’t tell me that you a model if you ain’t been in Vogue or whatever Drake said,” she captioned, indicating a light-hearted acknowledgment of the rapper’s influence.
