A former UFC champion shared some tragic news on Monday regarding his 15-month-old son.
Sadly, the son of former UFC champion and professional boxer Francis Ngannou has passed away.
Ngannou revealed the tragic news that his son, Kobe, had passed away in his home country of Cameroon.
Ngannou posted a tribute to his son on Instagram:
“Too soon to leave but yet he’s gone. My little boy, my mate, my partner Kobe was full of life and joy. Now, he’s laying without life. I shouted his name over and over but he’s not responding. I was my best self next to him and now I have no clue of who I am. Life is so unfair to hit us where it hurts the most. How do you deal with such a thing? How can you live with it? Please help me if you have an idea because I really don’t know what to do and how to deal with this.”
Ngannou boasts one of the most remarkable narratives in combat sports.
Arriving in Europe from Africa in his twenties, he swiftly ascended in the heavyweight mixed martial arts scene.
His crowning moment came in 2021 when he clinched the UFC championship, delivering a knockout blow to the widely regarded greatest heavyweight, Stipe Miocic.
Following a single title defense, he departed the UFC, seeking opportunities in professional boxing.
His boxing aspirations materialized when he faced off against heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, last October.
Despite ultimately losing via split decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Ngannou left an indelible mark on the sporting world by pushing Fury to the brink and even flooring him in the third round.
However, his boxing journey hit a setback with a knockout defeat to Anthony Joshua in his subsequent bout in March.
Presently tied to an exclusive MMA contract with PFL, Ngannou is yet to make his debut in the organization.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ngannou and his loved ones following this unimaginable loss.
