The Chicago Bears fulfilled expectations by selecting USC quarterback Caleb Williams as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
This move had been anticipated ever since they traded their former first-round pick, Justin Fields, to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month, effectively making Williams the clear choice.
With Williams now officially part of the team, he steps in as the new face of the franchise, poised to reshape the Bears’ fortunes. The team introduced him in an innovative way to season ticket holders, employing a hologram to showcase their new star quarterback.

Williams, a five-star recruit from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., started his collegiate journey at Oklahoma in 2021 under then-coach Lincoln Riley. In his freshman year, he tallied 1,912 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions across 11 games. His trajectory took a significant leap when he followed Riley to USC in 2022, where his stats soared to 4,537 yards with 42 touchdowns and just five interceptions, completing 66.6% of his passes during his Heisman Trophy-winning season. He even led USC to a bowl victory over Tulane, throwing for 462 yards and five touchdowns in that game.
However, Williams and USC faced challenges in 2023, with Williams throwing for 3,633 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions. The season ended disappointingly with three consecutive losses, including a particularly emotional defeat to Washington, where Williams was seen crying with his mother in the stands—a moment he later described not as a sign of weakness but as evidence of his deep commitment to winning.
Despite the criticism he faced for showing his emotions, Williams remained a top prospect and declared for the NFL Draft after a loss to UCLA, ending his college career.
In Chicago, Williams brings hope to a Bears team that has managed only 16 wins over the past three seasons. With his arrival, fans and the organization alike are optimistic that his leadership can herald a new, more successful era for the Bears.
