Caleb Williams recently shared his thoughts on a range of topics during his appearance on “The Pivot” with Ryan Clark and the crew, including his initial reaction to the Justin Fields trade.
While driving to a business meeting in the West Hollywood area, Williams learned of the trade and expressed surprise at the team’s decision:
“My phone explodes… I end up calling a couple of people and was just like, ‘Welp, we know where their mind and heart is at at this instance.’ Let’s prepare and get ready and handle things accordingly and still do our due diligence on the situation and things like that,” Williams recounted. He was particularly taken aback since, at the time, he hadn’t yet done his top-30 visit nor had the team reviewed his medicals. “It was interesting right then in that moment because it was just so unexpected,” he added.

Last month, the Bears traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick, which could potentially upgrade to a fourth depending on his playing time.
Amidst ongoing debates about retaining Fields, who was the 11th overall pick in a previous draft, Chicago ultimately decided to trade him, believing the opportunity to draft Williams with the No. 1 pick was a pivotal move for their future.
The NFL Draft is set to commence in just over 48 hours, with the Bears aiming to secure a quarterback that could be their first Hall of Famer at the position since Sid Luckman.
