Ja Morant is getting benched for a while.
The standout player for the Memphis Grizzlies has been suspended for 25 games following his recent gun scandal.
While there has been no official announcement from the league, NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news on Friday morning to mixed reactions. Many fans felt that 25 games was too lenient a punishment, with some suggesting that it should have been 50 or longer.
Adrian Wojnarowski added that there are conditions that Morant must meet before he can return to the NBA, and ESPN’s Darren Rovell noted that the suspension will cost Morant around $10 million.

Woj also revealed that there was an expectation that Morant’s suspension announcement could come on Friday, but there is no word on how long it will actually be.
“There’s an expectation that today could be the day. … It’s probably going to be more than 18 games.”

The Memphis Grizzlies organization is particularly invested in this decision, as Morant is set to start a lucrative contract with them next season, and the NBA Draft is approaching.
As a repeat offender, many believe that Morant’s suspension will be longer than his previous 8-game suspension. Meanwhile, it was revealed that rapper Lil Wayne had attempted to help Morant but was unsuccessful in doing so.
