Popular sports media personality Bomani Jones acknowledges that Caitlin Clark has faced her fair share of critics as she prepares for her debut in the WNBA.
While he understands some level of criticism is inevitable, he believes it shouldn’t spiral out of control.
Jones contends that critics are perhaps overlooking the significant impact Clark could have on elevating the WNBA.
“She’s going to be a bigger deal than…who you were talking about before. She’s going to be the ‘it,’ and the ‘it’ has arrived right now,” Jones said. “There’s a measure of peace that you need to make with this rather than turning it into some larger cause. Because I think turning it into a larger cause, A, is going to do a disservice to the women that you’re putting up as points of juxtaposition, but B, y’all are just missing the point.”
Jones emphasizes that Clark’s popularity stems from her unique playing style, which captivated audiences during her college career.

Despite the heightened competition in the professional league, Jones anticipates Clark will remain among the top players in the WNBA.
“Parking lot jumpers are the thing that people love to see now. And Caitlin Clark is out here giving you parking lot jumpers,” Jones explained. “We’ve never had somebody in women’s ball doing the thing that is the exciting thing in men’s ball.”
Clark is set to kick off her WNBA journey as the Indiana Fever take on the Connecticut Sun on May 14th.
