As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, USC quarterback Caleb Williams is widely expected to be the first overall pick, with the Chicago Bears emerging as his likely new team.
NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reports that following their initial in-person meeting a few weeks ago, the Bears have maintained regular communication with Williams through video chats, which have been characterized as both frank and positive.
This development comes after the Bears traded their former quarterback, Justin Fields, to the Pittsburgh Steelers, clearing the way for Williams. There’s speculation that Chicago might even finalize a contract with Williams before the draft officially begins.
Amidst these professional milestones, Williams has briefly stepped away from his pre-draft preparations to travel to Tokyo with his girlfriend, Valery Orellana. The couple, dating since around October 2020, often shares glimpses of their relationship on Instagram.

The Bears, who had the league’s worst record in 2022 at 3-14, showed signs of progress last season by improving to a 7-10 record and staying in playoff contention until the late stages of the season. With a core group of young, developing players, particularly on defense and the offensive line, Chicago is poised for further improvement.
Adding a quarterback of Williams’ caliber could significantly boost the Bears’ prospects, potentially turning them into playoff contenders and, in time, Super Bowl challengers. While nothing is guaranteed, Williams’ entry into the NFL is highly anticipated, and the Bears are constructing a supportive environment that could enable his success from the outset.
