O.J. Simpson continues to be a figure of controversy, even in death.
Malcolm LaVergne, the longtime lawyer for O.J. Simpson, has refuted claims that the former NFL player died surrounded by his family.
The Simpson family issued an official statement confirming his passing at age 76 due to cancer, saying, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” as posted on Simpson’s X account.

However, LaVergne provided a different account to AP News, stating that Simpson was actually accompanied by just one individual at the time of his death, whom he described only as “a close family member.”
LaVergne noted, “You have to remember that they’ve shared O.J. with the world their entire lives.”
Simpson’s children include Arnelle Simpson, 55, and Jason Simpson, 53, as well as Sydney Simpson, 38, and Justin Simpson, 35, who are his children with his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson, who was tragically murdered in 1994.
