Last week, Bronny James made headlines by declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft and entering the transfer portal as a former USC guard.
During his freshman year, Bronny averaged modest stats of 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, leading many fans to suggest that another year of college basketball might benefit his development before turning professional.
However, former NBA star Paul Pierce sees this as an opportune moment for Bronny to make the jump to the NBA. Speaking on FS1’s “Undisputed,” Pierce commented on the strength of this year’s draft class. “This is the weakest draft class known in my lifetime,” Pierce stated. “There are no impact players out there that’ll change a team’s fortune right now. There’s no player that’s going to make a difference next year. This is a great opportunity for him to come out whether he’s drafted or a free agent.”

Pierce also speculated that Bronny could potentially join teams like the Lakers or Cavaliers next season.
LeBron James, Bronny’s father, has expressed that he will not influence his son’s professional decisions, although he has previously shared his desire to one day share the court with him.
This year’s draft lacks standout stars like Victor Wembanyama, a fact that could potentially work in Bronny’s favor by reducing competition for draft spots. Yet, the challenge remains significant, as Bronny was not a starter at USC, which raises questions about his readiness for NBA-level competition next season.
