It’s undeniable that Iowa guard Caitlin Clark has garnered immense popularity, perhaps making her one of the most renowned college athletes of the 21st century, evident in the remarkable television ratings she’s contributed to in women’s basketball.
However, Clark isn’t immune to criticism. With Iowa having its fair share of rivals, both regional and national, coupled with differing opinions on her style of play or demeanor on the court, not everyone is enamored with her.
Addressing her detractors on Saturday, Clark acknowledged the inevitability of varied opinions when one is in the spotlight.
“When you’re in the spotlight like this, there’s going to be a million different opinions on you. And for every person who loves you, there will be those who don’t. That’s the reality for every professional athlete, regardless of gender, competing at the highest level,” Clark remarked.

In Friday’s game, Clark showcased her prowess, scoring 21 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out seven assists, leading the Hawkeyes to a 71-69 victory over Connecticut and securing a spot in the national championship against South Carolina.
Reflecting on her journey, Clark emphasized her focus on the opinions of those closest to her.
“I think what I’ve been able to do throughout my career is concentrate on the views of the people inside our locker room. That’s what truly matters to me—the individuals I deeply care about, who have supported me unwaveringly throughout my entire journey,” Clark added.
Whether or not you like Caitlin Clark, her star power is undeniable.
