Earthquakes are trending today.
Amidst the shockwaves reverberating through the Northeast due to an unexpected earthquake on Friday morning, Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres remained unfazed, continuing his batting practice without skipping a beat.
Despite the ground literally shaking beneath him, Torres was captured on footage from MLB Network calmly taking swings during the quake, displaying remarkable focus and dedication to his craft.

Reports have confirmed that a 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck west of Manhattan, causing widespread surprise and concern among New Yorkers. Governor Kathy Hochul promptly addressed the situation, stating, “A 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit west of Manhattan and has been felt throughout New York. My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day.”
Fortunately, the earthquake is not expected to disrupt the Yankees’ scheduled home opener later in the day, with the first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. ET. Despite the unusual circumstances, Torres’ commitment to his pre-game routine may prove beneficial as he takes the field.
Only time will tell if his extra time in the batting cage pays dividends in the game ahead.
