Marvin Harrison Jr., the Ohio State wide receiver, stirred some controversy by choosing to sit out his own pro day, eliciting criticism from former NFL wide receiver James Jones during a recent episode of “The Herd” on FS1.
While Jones didn’t take issue with Harrison skipping the workouts at the NFL Combine, he expressed strong disapproval of Harrison’s decision to watch Ohio State’s pro day from the sidelines.
“For me, I don’t like this at all. I truly don’t,” Jones said. “The main reason I don’t like this is because I’m a competitor. I understand this man is in a great situation. Turn the tape on. But there’s a lot of dudes like that. Calvin Johnson was like that.
“And if we’re really keeping it 100, Calvin Johnson was better than you in college. Calvin Johnson had a pro day. There’s a lot of dudes who had your talent, if not better talent, that still had the pro day.”

Jones emphasized that while Harrison’s talent is undeniable, there have been numerous players with similar or even greater abilities who still participated in pro day events.
He cited Calvin Johnson as an example, underscoring Johnson’s exceptional talent and willingness to showcase it during his college career.
Despite Harrison’s absence from the pro day circuit, he is still widely regarded as one of the top prospects at his position in the upcoming draft. His impressive college statistics, including 155 receptions for 2,613 yards and 31 touchdowns at Ohio State, coupled with his standout performances on tape, solidify his status as a highly sought-after prospect.
