Despite Caitlin Clark’s celebrated status as a star player, some have criticized her for her brash on-court behavior.
To address this concern, coach Lisa Bluder has taken a proactive approach during Iowa women’s basketball practices. She hasn’t hesitated to call technical fouls on Clark as part of her efforts to help the player maintain her composure during games.
Bluder has even brought in officials to some practices, but when they’ve been hesitant to penalize Clark, she has stepped in from the bench to enforce discipline.
“I’ve had to call technicals on her in practice. The officials that we’re bringing in sometimes don’t want to call technicals on us so I’ll just do it from the bench because I do feel like we have to try to help her maintain her composure at times and if they’re not going to do it, I will,” Bluder said.

This proactive approach appears to have yielded positive results, as Clark has avoided receiving any technical fouls during this year’s NCAA Tournament. Despite her occasional fiery demeanor during games, she has demonstrated an ability to calm down and remain focused.
Clark’s outstanding performance has played a significant role in Iowa’s success in the tournament thus far, and she will look to continue her strong play against Colorado on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
A victory in that game could potentially set up a rematch of last year’s national title game against LSU in the Elite Eight, provided LSU emerges victorious against UCLA.
